How Can the IDC Industry of China, Now Ranked Second in the World, Overtake the Competitor?

2019-04-18

Thanks to the rapid development of ICT technology, it seems that the IDC industry of China has taken on the way of overtaking the competitor in terms of technology and product as well as the speed and scale of development.

On April 17 (local time in Malaysia), Song Jing, Vice President of Chindata and Director of the Planning and Design Institute, was invited to the Uptime Institute Network Asia-Pacific Summit and gave a keynote speech. She shared about the technical innovation and successful practices of the IDC industry of China in integrated solutions for hyperscale and edge data center hybrid architectures. It is the first time that a Chinese data center operator shared its experience to overseas operators at the Summit.

“Thanks to the rapid development of ICT technology, it seems that the IDC industry of China has taken on the way of overtaking the competitor in terms of technology and product as well as the speed and scale of development. This year, Chindata is devoted to building a bridge for communicating with the world for customers—bringing Chinese customers to the world and overseas customers to China,” said Song Jing.

In fact, it is an international consensus that everyone is optimistic about the development of the IDC industry of China.

According to the research report of Synergy Research Group, in 2018, the US occupied 40% of the global data center market, ranking the first in the world, while the data center industry of China witnessed extraordinarily rapid development despite its late start, ranking the second with the percentage of 8%. According to Cisco statistics, by 2021, 39% of data centers around the world will be located in the Asian-Pacific region, and the Chinese market will bear most of the increment. As predicted in the white paper China Will Have the Largest Data Circle by 2025 published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the global data circle will grow from 33ZB in 2018 to 175ZB in 2025, and the Chinese data circle will grow to 48.6ZB, accounting for 27.8% of the world, to be the largest data circle in the world.

In a word, Asia-Pacific is the center of the world, while China is the center of Asia-Pacific.

“Similar to the global trend, the outburst of data in China is mainly due to such emerging technologies as AI, IoT, cloud computing, and edge computing. Data has become an indispensable productive force. The integrated solution of ‘edge computing data node + cloud computing DC + big data DC’ hybrid architecture provided by Chindata can help the customers acquire, store, analyze and utilize the data in a more scientific and reasonable way,” said Song Jing. ”

According to Song Jing, the integrated solution of “edge computing data node + cloud computing DC + big data DC” hybrid architecture can be distributed flexibly as required by the customer, with the nodes interconnected. Simply speaking, it is deploying over 1,000 edge computing nodes in the world as resources for extensive deployment, building hyperscale cloud data centers around first-tier cities as back factory resources, and relying on the data center and network resources of first-tier cities as front stores, thus highly integrating and interconnecting the front shops, back factories and extensive deployment.

Uptime Institute is a world-recognized data center standardization organization and an authoritative and professional certification authority. In 2018, Chindata became the first enterprise passing HRA in the world, and the first neutral third-party information infrastructure operator in the Asian-Pacific region that passed M&O, T4, and HRA at a time. That marked Chindata’s international advanced level in the design, operation and maintenance of data centers and the network service capacity of edge computing data centers, and verified the reliable product performance and excellent delivery capacity of Chindata.
