Chindata has been featured as a case study in ClimateTech in Focus: Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability, released during Shanghai Climate Week. ClimateTech in Focus is an annual flagship research series led by the United Nations, with contributions from institutions across the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region, and supported by Shanghai Climate Week. The series examines how emerging technologies can contribute to climate action and sustainable development.

ClimateTech in Focus: Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability

The report presents a systematic review of AI-driven sustainability solutions across key sectors, including energy systems, infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics, finance, and public governance. From a global pool of initiatives, the latest edition identifies 11 representative case studies demonstrating how AI technologies can deliver measurable environmental and efficiency gains. Chindata was selected for its innovative approach to efficiently converting electrical power into computing capacity, and is the only neutral third-party hyperscale data center operator included among the featured cases.

Led by the Sino-International Entrepreneurs Federation (SIEF), the report brings together insights from more than 120 experts across 28 countries and regions, including 26 heads of state and ministerial-level officials. It is prefaced by Zhou Yiping, International Strategic Advisor to Shanghai Climate Week and former United Nations Special Envoy and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation. The research is intended to provide policymakers and industry leaders with actionable frameworks addressing how AI can be deployed to advance sustainability objectives.

Chindata's case illustrates how hyperscale data center design, advanced engineering, and intelligent operations can significantly improve power utilization efficiency, reduce cooling-related energy consumption, and enhance overall resource efficiency while supporting high-density AI workloads.

In operations, Chindata is among the earliest data center operators in China to establish a hyperscale operations and maintenance management framework. Its intelligent O&M solution integrates multiple locally deployed AI models with unified monitoring systems, enabling automated energy optimization, precise fault localization, and intelligent alert consolidation.

In terms of engineering, Chindata has pioneered a hybrid cooling architecture combining liquid cold-plate cooling with air-side magnetic-levitation phase-change systems, continuously pushing the efficiency limits of hyperscale data center facilities.

In power delivery, the company has recently deployed the world's first commercial intelligent DC power supply solution for data centers based on solid-state transformer (SST) technology, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 98.5%, an industry-leading level.

Sustainability has long been a core strategic priority for Chindata. Its projects have achieved LEED BD+C Platinum certification, reflecting international best practices in green building design.
