YIDU, China—April 3, 2026—Chindata Group and HEC Group have officially commenced construction of the Yidu HEC-Chindata Advanced Computing Campus, a 7.5MW advanced computing facility located in Gaobazhou Township, Yidu City. 

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Huang Jianxiong, Secretary of the Yichang Municipal Party Committee, who announced the start of construction, and Chen Honghui, Deputy Secretary and Mayor of Yichang, who presided over the event. 

Zhang Yushuai, Chairman of HEC Group, delivered opening remarks. Wu Huapeng, Senior Vice President of HEC Group and Chief Executive Officer of Chindata, outlined the project's scope and strategic importance. Other attendees included Tan Jianguo, Deputy Secretary of the Yichang Municipal Party Committee; Zhang Lixin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress; Tan Haihua, Chairman of the Municipal Political Consultative Conference; Zhu Yingwei, HEC Group Director and General Manager of the Yidu Base; as well as Yichang municipal officials Yan Yuanyi and Li Changqing. 

“This project marks an important milestone in the collaboration between HEC, Chindata, and the city of Yichang,” said Mayor Chen Honghui. “It is expected to strengthen cooperation in the years ahead. Municipal agencies and the Yidu City government will coordinate closely to support the project, streamline administrative processes, and address implementation issues efficiently, helping bring the facility online as quickly as possible and deliver tangible local benefits.” 

Yichang is a major hub for hydroelectric power in China, with abundant renewable energy resources, a supportive business environment, and a strong industrial foundation. “HEC will continue to work closely with Chindata and align with Yichang's broader development plans,” said Chairman Zhang Yushuai. “We aim to expand the development of large-scale, low-carbon AI computing campuses and explore integrated approaches that combine power generation, grid coordination, energy storage, and computing infrastructure. This approach supports tighter coupling between energy supply and computing demand, enabling more efficient and scalable deployment of data-driven applications.” 

“The Yidu campus represents a meaningful step in advancing the integration of energy systems, computing infrastructure, and industrial applications between Chindata and HEC,” said Wu Huapeng. “By leveraging HEC's capabilities in advanced materials and clean energy, together with our expertise in data center design and operations, we will continue to enhance computing capacity, optimize energy utilization, and support Yichang's development as an emerging hub for the digital economy.” 

Zhou Bin, Deputy Secretary of the Yidu Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Yidu City, expressed the government's commitment to the project. “Yidu will provide consistent policy support, efficient government services, and a stable operating environment throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the campus is completed and brought into operation at the earliest possible stage.” 

The Yidu HEC-Chindata Advanced Computing Campus is the first demonstration project jointly developed by HEC Group and Chindata in Yidu. The campus will deliver 7.5MW of high-standard IT capacity, along with an advanced computing exhibition center and an academic exchange center. It is designed with a layout that separates a public-facing showcase area from back-end research and technical operations, supporting both technology demonstration and ongoing innovation. 

The project will follow a development approach that begins with talent attraction, followed by resource consolidation, and ultimately supports the build-out of a broader industry ecosystem. Upon completion, it will function as an integrated advanced computing platform combining computing services, technology showcase, and academic collaboration, supporting the growth of artificial intelligence, big data, and related industries in the region. It is also expected to support Yidu's transition toward a more digitally driven economy and contribute to the region's long-term economic development.
